The Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Management is a three-year program that equips students with all the required skills, knowledge, and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality Sector. The program also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skills, standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office Operation, and House Keeping. The program imparts substantial management inputs in area such as Sales and Marketing, Public Relations, Crisis Management, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel and Catering Law, Property Management, Entrepreneurship Development, Computers with special focus on Tourism Studies.
This, being a service industry, requires the right attitude, patience, discipline, commitment, dedication, pleasing personality, and good inter-personal skills.
The first impression of the Hotel is formed by the welcome guests being received in front office. Hence, the graduates with attractive personality and excellent inter-personal skills find jobs in the front office. Others get absorbed in the rest of the departments like Food and Beverage, Banquets, Restaurant and Food Service, Housekeeping, Marketing etc. Assistant Managers supervise the day-to-day operations of their departments. Each department has its own HOD. Large hotels have Resident Managers to resolve problems round the clock.
After a few years of experience, the Graduates of Hotel Management assume the role of Hotel Managers. Hotel Managers are responsible for the efficient and profitable operation of the Hotel. A General Manager controls the finances, establishment norms to be followed by the staff while providing services like housekeeping, food quality, decor and interiors.

Most colleges conduct Group Discussion and Personal Interviews for short-listed candidates.
The eligibility criterion for most colleges is a pass in XII standard in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination of the CBSE (or any other exam recognized as its equivalent) in single attempt. Students appearing for the exam in this academic year are also eligible. There is generally an upper age limit of 22 years (25 years for SC/ST).
